Discussion: What is your.....

Seasons greetings to everyone!

I would not let this chance pass by thus, my dear students, let me ask you a question or two:

What is your Christmas wish/es and your New Years resolution?

and

Does history (regardless of subject, e.g. Philippine history or Modern Europe etc) have significance / value outside of academics? Does knowing something about history help any?

Feel free to post your answers either in English and Filipino. Extra credit will be given to those who will participate thus do not forget to state your name and course ( yr. & sec).

Philippine History Classes:
We will not be able to meet on Monday next week, December 14 and most likely on Thursday as well because of the university or my college's Christmas party. Nonetheless, please be advised that as soon as the class resumes next year, the next group of reporters must present their topic and be ready as well for a graded recitation (topics from previous discussion). Friday classes:

November 27: National Day for Mourning


Nakikiisa ang Polytechnic University of the Philippines sa pambansang pagdadalamhati ng sambayanan hinggil sa trahedya sa Mindanao. Thus, Pres. Guevarra has announced yesterday the suspension of classes at the university on November 27.

"Advisory: PUP, through its President, DR. DANTE G. GUEVARRA condemns the mass killing in Maguindanao. He says this is a big blow to our existence as a free, peace loving and democratic nation. He is therefore declaring tomorrow, November 27, 2009 as a DAY OF MOURNING in PUP.

Second Semester, 2009- 2010: Requirements and Grade System

First off, greetings to all of my students. I hope you've had fruitful or if not, a very relaxing vacation. What are my expectations in my class? I would like my students to perform very well, participate in class discussions as well as do good in their examinations. Without much ado, let me give to you my class requirements and grading system.

Books Required
Book required for Philippine History Classes: Historia: Pag-usbong, Pakikipagtagpo at Pagbuo by Dr. Amalia Rosales and Prof. Raul Sebastian

Book required for Rizal: Rizal, walang hanggang landas by Dr. Amalia Rosales

Grading System and Recording
1. It is the duty of the class secretary or the officer alternate to record all papers, activities, attendance to exams as well as help me computing the grades.

2. The Grading System maybe changed, that is the corresponding percentage maybe adjusted depending on the number of projects or activities given. In such cases, the class secretary will be informed by yours truly.

3. The class secretary will provide me copies of the records (from attendance to exams) and will be responsible typing out her classmates' names on the grade sheets.

Class Proper and Requirements

1. All students are required to submit 1/8 index card, with 1x1 picture attached on the right side of the card, with the following detail filled up:

2. Per class will have to provide at least 2 boxes (plastic covered or properly covered) with my name and their class and yr and section's name on it. These will serve as safe keep for all their papers etc.

3. Alphabetically arranged seats as well as its corresponding seat plan will be enforced. Seat plan will be provided to me by either the class president or vice-president a week after the start of the class.

4. Tardiness is not entertained in my class. Kindly come on time. Refer to your student hand book for more details and the course outline I will provide to you.

5. Use of cel phone is not allowed in my class!! Turn your phone off or put them on silent mode otherwise, it will be confiscated if you are caught using it.

6. No littering in class. Before the class starts, everyone's expected to pick up litters on floor should there be any.

7. If a student is caught listening to an mp3 player in my class, while/ during class discussion, it will be confiscated. The student then will be sent to the guidance office.

8.Arrange the chairs.

9. Classes are given 10-15 minutes allowance before classes start. This is to give them ample time to prepare their presentation.

Examination
  1. Quizzes (objective type and essay) are given almost every meeting. If essay, answers must either be in English or Filipino unless otherwise the professor requires either of the mediums.
  2. Failure to take an exam/ quiz will automatically be given a grade of 5, unless otherwise, the student could provide an excuse letter signed by their guardian together with guardian's ID and noted by the guidance office.
  3. No special projects are given unless otherwise the student has a valid reason.
  4. Papers containing the same answers as with everybody else's in the class will automatically be given 5.0 resulting to failing of the course.
  5. Papers that has answers lifted directly from the text book, or web pages will be automatically given 5.0 resulting to failing of the course. PLAGIARISM is NOT ALLOWED IN MY CLASS!!!!!!!
  6. Students are required to submit their assignments, projects as well as other requirements on time. There will be no adjustment of date for submission.

Grades
1. In most cases, essay papers will be returned to the respective class after 2-4 days. In any case, it will still be the class secretary's task to record the results and eventually help me computing the grades.
2. For class presentation / reporting, it would be graded as follows:

Style - 30%
Ability to answer

SIS bugged!

To all students: Unfortunately the university's SIS server is having an issue at this time.

There is currently a bug where
some student's grades are being misreported. Likewise the inputting of grades is currently unavailable. SIS is aware of the issues and working to resolve them.

The end result is this has delayed posting of the grades. Grades will be uploaded on Monday.

Submission of Final Paper requirements!

Submission of Final Requirements, as well as others (e.g. activity equivalent to recitation etc) with the EXCEPTION of ABH 2-1 until tomorrow, October 22, 2 P.M. Late submission will no longer be entertained and will be automatically marked as 5.0.

a. Poem (based on the activity you've seen). Limit the number of stanzas to no more than 10. You may write it either in English or Filipino or combination of those medium (e.g. Eng- alog etc.)

b. Activity Review: Answer the following questions.
- Pick one of the main characters. Think of a shape that fits that person's traits. Draw the shape. Then describe the character inside the shape.(optional)

REMINDER: No attachments! and others

When you send your emails (assignments, activities equivalent to recitation, etc. except power point presentations) to my addresses, just write them directly or post them directly to the compose mail. NO ATTACHMENTS please! I am rather weary and dubious of downloading documents. I hope everyone understands. Thanks!

OTHERS:

All class secretaries of the class will have to provide me copies of class record (print and e-mail) to my mail address. Also, classes that do not belong to SIS system will have to furnish me 4 to 5 copies of grade sheets complete with the following details:
- students' numbers
- students' names
- grades (if possible)
- write the word "pass" on the remark column if the student has grades in all terms (1st grading- midterm, 2nd grading- final term, Final rating).

Please note that the name should be put on the signature of the Department head (found at the bottom part of the grade sheet) is Prof. Angel Duque.

Announcement: Schedule of Requirements
