Attention: MM 1-2 Humanities class

MM 1-2: Assignments and FINAL REQUIREMENT.

NOTE: All assignments and projects should be placed in separate neat boxes (i.e., one box for all your assignments, one box for all your projects), with my name on top (lid) and your course year and section.

Assignment

Instructions: Chose only one activity out of three. Place your answer on bond paper short, together with photo (lyrics, in case of music) of a piece you've chosen to work on. Deadline of submission is on: October 14.

A. Find a painting you like (the larger and more original, the better) and then imagine it is like a body of water. Try "diving" into it by giving yourself over to it, focusing on it totally, the whole of the painting all at once, and letting it come into you. Describe what happened, if anything. Next, try this with a painting you don't like as well.

B. Choose a piece of music you like. Try listening to the cutting edge as if it were an ocean wave and you were concentrating on the front edge only, ignoring what has already gone past. Listen to the texture of the different instruments or voices. Then describe what happened, and next, try it with a piece of music you like less.

C. Find a piece of sculpture, a carving, or an architectural or craft form that you like. Touch it. Rub your hands over its shapes and angles. Let the physical sensation of it take over your senses. Close your eyes and let the physical sensations create fantasies of other objects, times, or places. Then describe what happened, and try it with some sculptural form or shape you don't like as much.

Final Requirement

Final Project: By pair project (2 members per group)

The final requirement in my class is writing and submitting a review together with the documentary discs. The documentary could any be of the following: Discovery, National Geographic or History dvds discussing either the culture, tradition, literature of a group of people or nation. Titles must be submitted to me first for approval. Not one project should be alike.

Deadline of Submission: October 14

Guide Questions for the review:
1. Introduction
2. What is the quality of the evidence-- convincing? adequate? are the sources recognized by others in the field?
3. Are there other works on the same or a similar topic?
4. Recommendation:
- Were any previous ideas you had on this subject changed or abandoned due to this book? were they reinforced?
-Would you recommend this documentary to others? Why?

Place your answers on bond paper short. Please note, that your answers should be in English and typed written.
